Inbetween Jobs

The title sounds like I could be a thief or a hitman. Or just a con on hiatus...inbetween jobs. The truth is, I'm just unemployed with about 11 or 12 applications processing in purgatory. Yes, they wait there for prayers of release to employment salvation or hellish slackerdom. While I wait for absolution, I shall write. Perhaps some holy water will be dropped upon my headstone or a rosary bead will be rubbed just the right way, with just the right thoughts to grant my release...or not.

This is not the first time I have been "inbetween". Once, I was this way for over a year. Using the phrase "stayed at home to care for child" only worked in the 90's. There are daycares and afterschool programs which are not the kiddie storage facilities of the past. I wish I could have gone to one (my mother was a stay at home mom). Now, we can do it all (I am a single-parent; my mother was married). We have help (my mother and father slept in separate bedrooms but never divorced; I am getting a divorce).

My life is that of the writing half of a Mr & Mrs Smith quality (without the bloodshed; but there are thoughts of at least 3 deadly sins). This is if the Smith's were writers instead of hitmen. My life is kept secret from even myself (Mr. Smith would have to be extremely afraid of being alone). However, this life, inbetween jobs, gives delicious ideas, time to communion with Reality (on a metaphysical level), and to discover the true meaning of kundalini energy.

So, why worry? Happy feels so much better this time...inbetween.

the more i look at my current style of writing (poetry and essays), i see the confusion. it is in the "getting it out". i walk through downtown philadelphia and think of poems constantly...actually bombarded with words streaming from flashing neon sign, billboards, and then in the faces of people. it is quite a madness going on in my head while being jobless. and with the mr. and mrs smith reference, it was how they hid who they really are from one another which could have been resolved in the beginning, but the movie would have been boring. i hid my lust for writing from my "practical" self, the responsible citizen/mom type. reconciling the two, well, i'm still working on it. in the meantime, i write. thank you for the comment :)...namaste

As someone who has bounced around between jobs, this little "rambling" made me smile. The reference to Mr. and Mrs. Smith is interesting...it hits on the dual mindsets writers can have. I know I find myself having this desire to plan things out. That logical part of me that wants to work and make money. Then there's the writer that wants to go off in the woods and meditate...then write an epic poem about my experience. Then there are even more faces than that to attend to. I think good writing is about being a little crazy....even if it drives you nuts.

I was a little confused by the last paragraph, it threw me off a little, the comparison with the Smith's life. Also the sentences in parenthesis were a little long, perhaps losing the parenthesis, or shortening the thoughts within. The writing is good, the story grabbed my interest, but the ending...especially the last line, I didn't envision the character as happy or worry free, especially given the reference to the gravestone.
