Odd

Gertie Summerside's knickers were knee-length.

We knew because she sat on Granny's sofa with her tweedy knees planted wide. The resulting vision prompted surreptitious nudges and whispered conversations later in the garden shed.

As we grew, we tried to peer over the fence to glimpse through Gertie's window. Did she sit on her own sofa in the same unguarded way?

Eventually, we got bored.

Until the day she wore no underwear at all.

Nice, controlled writing. The tone maintained throughout, that wonderful reflective tone that stings us all at one time or another. And of course, the final scene brings a smile. Okay, a laugh.

Thanks-

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I'm glad it made you laugh - and cringe.
I did think twice about surreptitious, Grae. I was thinking about age 7-9, I guess. We were precocious brats but I can't swear to the age authenticity of the word. (Oh yes, it is based on truth - though not entirely, thank god).

Eeeeeow - Rebecca, you've put me right off my tea. But you made me laugh, too.

Thanks for the read.

Cheers

Ha, don't plant those images in my mind, Rebecca. Well constructed, funny and interesting story. How old was the MC as 'surreptitious' is a doozie of a word for a little 'un?

Loved the story

Grae.
