The water hole

What do you do when you are swimming in the country, surrounded by woods, and suddenly feel someone watching you? That is what happened to Tanya and Hope one Summer day..

Tanya and her cousin, Hope, were spending the summer day like any other, just sitting around under the maple tree talking and reading their romance novels, when Hope's mom told them to go look for blue berries. The girls moaned, but got up and headed across the tracks to look for blue berries.

An hour into looking beside the dirt road for berries, and not finding any, the girls gave up.

" Well, what now, Hope?"

" Let's swim."

Tanya nodded. It was hot and they had went on a stupid search for stupid berries. They might as well get some enjoyment out of this wasted trip.

They stopped in front of the water hole that they always went swimming in with their cousins. It was about knee high and filled with water. The ground of the pool was covered with clay, so the water wasn't muddy. They stripped off their clothes and jumped in.

Like any other time the girls were together, they started to tell their own little story, their little fantacy, that they created together to escape boredom and other teenage catastrophes.

Hope looked strangely at Tanya when she suddenly stopped swimming.

" What?"

" Do you feel that?"

" Stop it, you're scaring me."

" I'm not making it up. Don't you feel like someone is watching us?"

Hope paused. The hair on the back of her neck stood up. She silently nodded. Their hearts racing, the girls quickly got out of the water and dressed. At the same time they looked toward the woods. There they saw an abandoned deer blind. They blinked when they saw the shadow of a man inside.

" Oh my god, Hope. Do you see him too?"

" Yes. Lets go."

They turned to head back to the house, breathing scared breaths. They were about a quarter of a mile away from safety. All of a sudden they heard footsteps in the woods. They looked at eachother, realizing the other had heard the crashing in the woods. Together they yelled,

" Run!"

They ran until their sides ached. Pausing for breath, they glanced over their shoulders, exspecting to see whatever was chasing them. They heard the footsteps again. They looked at eachother, grabbed hands and ran, like the devil himself was at their heels.

The footsteps stopped when the house came into view. The girls still didn't stop running until they reached the house. Immediately they went to their male cousins. They boys set off instantly to see what had been chasing the girls. Hope and Tanya decided to stay at the house.

Twenty minutes later, they returned to tell the girls that they found empty beer cans inside the deer blind. Someone had definitly been there. They had also tipped the blind over.

Two weeks later the boys asked the girls to go for a walk with them. They went, but when they got to the swimming hole they both got that eary feeling of being watched again. They glanced at the deer blind and saw that it had been turned right side up. They grabbed their cousins and made them walk them back to the house.

Tanya and Hope never ventured to the swimming hole again. They decided the garden hose would work to cool them off just as good as the water hole.

Ya know, if I was in that situation, I don't know what I'd do. I watch a lot of horror movies, and my mind would be racing!

Aside from a few minor spelling errors, this was a good read.
