The Island
“I shouldn’t be here, I shouldn’t be here, ohhh God help me….”
“Heyyy!!!! Shut the fuck up, your gonna give our position away,”
“Look we have been sitting here for three fuckin’ days, waiting on these bastards, they are not coming,” at once the cowardly man rose to his feet in a bid to make himself look more masculine. There was a sudden whizzing sound then a thud, blood exploded out of the cowardly man’s mouth, and he dropped to the floor, with an arrow in the head.
Suddenly the once dark and peaceful forest exploded in flames as torches lit up in straight line, “Herron we know you are there, you’re loud and spineless friend lead us right to you, come out now and surrender your sword and we shall let you and your men live.”
“Don’t do it me lord, we will die for you,” said a small and skinny man in a very shaky voice.
“Herron you have five minutes to decide, why bother keeping that sword you dishonour its master by continually losing battles with it,” said a shadowy figure in a smug voice.
“Don’t be a fool you gutless worm and throw your men……” the man suddenly froze and fell back and as he looked down at his chest he saw there was an arrow right through his chest.
“My men don’t like it when you insult their leader Cane, you know that,” said Herron with a worried smile on his face, he was a tall man with his shaved head, it meant there was nothing that could hide the huge scar down his face.
His opponent however was a fierce warrior, dressed in all black so that it was hard to see him at night, this was Cane he drew his eyes away from the body lying beside him, “He was knew to this place Herron, but I doubt you would let that stop you,” Cane and Herron seemed to talk to each other with a certain friendship like they were friends in another life.
“Ahhhh he was new, well I didn’t know that because I never get any new people so I thought we all played by the same rules here,” Herron made jesters to the men beside him and they scurried away from him leaving only a dozen with him.
“You know I always play fair, I meant he had only just joined he was living in one of our villages you see,” said Cane in a very unconvincing manner. “Now,” Cane’s voice switched from friendly to stern, “Hand over your sword or watch your men die.”
“I am afraid I can’t do that, but here is what I will do; I will let your men go free if you hand over that ring you treasure soo much.”
“Hahahahaha,” the men all laughed at once, all except Cane who drew his sword “Troops box formation, cover all sides.” There was a confused walk about the men, like their leader was going crazy.
At that time torches lit up in a complete circle around the already established line of torches. Now there was a frantic panic from Cane and his men to get in order. Cane then looked up at the sky and a terrible look drew upon his face, hundreds of what looked like fireflies were closing in on all sides, the moon was blotted out for a brief second, “Arrows!!!! Shields up,” a man shouted before being struck down by an arrow himself. The forest was now alight, and alive with the screams of desperate men trying to escape the flames.
“Full Advance,” ordered Herron and the torches all went out except the ones to the south of Cane’s army, who was now depleted to a few dozen and had no idea how close their enemies were because the torches had all been extinguished.
Cane looked around in despair, and then wondered why the troops from the south were not advancing when everyone was ordered to advance, “Retreat to the south,” he shouted “there is no one there,” He then continued to shout on his way to the south, but his men did not hear his way of escaping. Herron’s troops made the complete circle round their helpless foe and proceeded to slaughter them down to the last man.
