the Angel

The Angel

Adjusting her halo, she came running. Wings flapping, she collected the Crash Cart on the way.
A cardiac arrest for Christmas? This was meant to be a fun night at work! The man was grey and clammy as she fumbled for the oxygen and suction. Now was not the time to appear flustered! Get a grip! Moving as though unhurried, she set it all up watching him.
“He’s gone!” The machinery of resuscitation swung into gear, as Santa, an elf and the angel did what nurses are trained to do!
“He’s back!”
Groggy dazed eyes peered out, to see a large angel watching him intently, while discreetly checking his pulse. She could see his eyes registering the angel and sudden knowledge.
“Oh f***! He’s gone again! Perhaps dressing up for Christmas isn’t such a great idea!”

This is so great, Geordie, short, sharp, funny and clever, but from what you say below, a close call too.

I do see you scattering comma's around they're hard to deal with sometimes. I had a comma habit, according to the folks who did the intervention, but I'm cured. Sometimes I think I don't use enough of them now.

I'd never heard of flash fiction until I joined another writing site last year but the more I see it done well, the more I appreciate it.

thanks ash! yes night shift, sadly though it's all true except that the man didn't ever open his eyes! i haven't ever dressed up at work since. i still remember that night as too much to cope with even without the arrest!

Oh dear-- was this on a night shift? This line made me smile-- 'She could see his eyes registering the angel and sudden knowledge'. Nice job. :)

This is great, it's short, sweet and funny. Never thought about how a person might see dressing up on xmas as a bad thing!
