Angels Lacking Wings
How do you turn away a heart that's begging for another chance at life and love?
A troubled, lonesome, weary boy who's had his share of misery and woe
Bending on broken knees grasping for a fraying rope of trust and compassion
Seeking the eyes of an angel seated on a throne of stone, wearing lilies in her hair
Trailing fingertips on the tops of peaceful water beneath a fountain that's stopped
Stopped flowing long ago, like his tears stopped their falling on that precious skin
She moves her lips in most delicate ways, whispering, "Hush now, darling."
Turning an inviting palm towards him, a simple gesture of humility and poise
Shaking, he places his palm in hers, closing his eyes against the moonlight
Mouth set beside his troubled brow, she bends her body down to hell
"Hush now, love, all is well and well is all." She speaks in prose and lies
But they sooth his worrisome soul as she lays his head to rest upon her breast
In a meadow wet with dew beneath a rising sun, they lay, two hearts beating
How do you turn away a heart that's seeking solace in another?
An angel never does, but forsakes heaven to help him find his peace of mind.
