Daughter of the Sea
Misplaced thoughts from an unfaithful coral daughter
Of paper books and candles with dancing flames, things she'll never know
Underneath the water, everything is so far away from the light
Right beneath the surface, even there it's fading
Never reaching to the bottom where her home resides with sunken ships
Forgotten when they fell to rest with ghosts of sailors lost
Understanding that she's set a world apart, she stares up at the distant sky
Loving a life she's never known
Mistaken in thinking that her life would be better on two legs
Emotions catch her screaming, surfacing to stare out at the land
Reaching plaintively towards a life she could never lead
Memories of love among the kelp and coral forgotten
Amid the beauty she could not see
If only she had turned her eyes upon the starfish and the pearls
Death would not have found her, washed up and suffocating on the shore

| I love this, taking something (Like the Little Mermaid) and turning it into poetry. Beautiful and effecting language, the onbly thing is that it's a bit wordy in places, I would remove some unneccisary words to make it flow better. Besides that, wow. |
