Lullaby to Rest Your Eyes
Through the cracked window in your pane
The wind will whisper, singing lullabies to
Ease your weary head to sleep
Touching lightly on your heavy brow to take your pain
Saying
"hush now darling rest your mind,
give your tears some time to breathe"
The sun and moon, too bright for your aching eyes
Will hide their light behind the clouds
Without the stars, you'll choke back your fear
Screaming
"I need you there beside me"
As if you'd be able to follow them, stumbling home
Tracing outlines of poets all the way
But here, now
Standing before this great expanse of
Nothing
With the rain falling on you
You raise your eyes to the sky and find
That your words have failed you, but here, now
Able to part your lips, you cry,
Falling to your knees with the weight of a cracking heart
