Liars Don't Make Good Lovers
He can catch her heart, momentarily
As she’s caught by surprise
Medicated
Fed synthetic joy
Tipped back in a dizzy drunken dance
Whispered to and kissed
In ways she didn’t know could be real
But reality is a fickle thing
Confused with daydreams and promises
She should have known would be broken
But, her desire outweighs her doubts
She downs the poison
Drinking as if her thirst
Will never be
Quenched
But her thirst for what?
He says, “I hate to sound cliché…”
She turns her face away and whispers,
“I want this. Now.”
Folding to the pressure
Of him against her chest
His lips trailing kisses down her neck
To catch her mouth
Leaving her hell bent on having this
Completely
So she gives in to her desire
Until he rises
Sober
Screaming
In the morning light
She turns her eyes away whispering,
“I love you.”
Realizing that she was never meant
To come out of this fully alive
Walking away, she leaves a piece of her
Behind to waste away to dust
