the naive whore

my heart - what a whore
fed crumbs for so long
a bowl full of anything
is taken in
as quickly as it can
hunger pains get stronger
as memories of what it's like
to almost be full
flood its chambers
if it had eyes -
puppy dogs couldn't hold a candle to it
if it had knees -
it would be on them
ready for whatever trick needed to perform
for just
a little
more
that naive whore
my heart.

This is by far the best thing I've seen of yours. It has a form--it has direction. I like it very much!

I think most people can relate to this. People look for something to feel, something to love and they get to the point where the bar can get lowered. A heart can be our own worst enemy but it can also be our best friend. Great writing as usual.
