That Time Of Year

So it's that time of year
We are supposed to be full of cheer
The prices are being hiked
And the kids all want a new bike

The snow has been promised
And the overdraft has been demolished
The table will be overladen
Relatives will be a bit of a burden

So then it's the new year
Perhaps not so full of beer
The fridge is now empty
The bank wont lend us plenty

All the prices have come down
The tyres on the bikes need pumping
I feel I have a permanent frown
Perhaps by now I should have learnt something

Ha, ha! Yes, we fall for it every year. But I still love it. Good piece, and timely. I like the first stanza and the last two lines best.
Perhaps by now we should have learned something, but most of us haven't!
Merry Christmas, Anna
