What Matters
i don't want to change the world; i don't want to make a difference. i don't expect life to give me everything i want; life is under no obligation to grant my every wish. i don't need to know what lay before me; i just need to know that i'll survive it. i don't care whether or not you have changed, because in the end, i'll never forget how you used to be. it doesn't matter to me that people would love to see me fall. i have to fall in order to grow anyway. all i want, all i really need, is to know that there's a chance tomorrow will be better. the chance that i could wake up with a smile on my face, and fall asleep with it still in place. the chance that the day will bring me something wonderful and glorious to remember. because no matter what, all that matters are the memories we live to make.

| I have had moments like this, where I fell into the moment of Now. It's a good place to be, as a writer, as a human. Now that I'm teaching middle school, I'm stuck in the "we must change the world" mode; my students are so cool, so passionate, they pull me along their river. |
