As I fall asleep tonight
The moon is high, full
Stars shine bright
My eyes search the ceiling
Thoughts desperately refusing to be drawn to you
Those happier times
My mind relaxes
I dream
Opening a door I cannot shut
Standing on that open field
Glistening moonlight
I lay next to you
Whispering lovely words in your ear
Your back is turned to me
A single tear reflects the starlight
I cry without a sound
As I wake in the middle of the night
A cool breeze drifts from an open window
I feel the soft light on my face
And my eyes glance to the impression you made
The indentation you made that’s not there
But you were next to me; I played with your hair
Under the glaring light of the moon
Searching for where you are
