WINTER IS HERE ©

Winter is here, the wind and the rain
the sleet and the snow can be a pain.
Kids with sledges, hats and gloves,
winter coats and warm ear muffs

Wellies, macs and snowmen too,
kids find plenty of things to do.
For me the winter can be a strain,
my car gets stuck and drives me insane.

Children love the hail and sleet
with the snow lying at their feet,
they have lots of snowball fights
and sledge down hills with such delight.

They love the winter more than me
and shake the snow from a tree,
throwing snow all about
you can see them jump and shout.

They don't care if it's cold you see,
running about the snow with glee.
Winter's a time to sledge and ski,
but that is really not for me

It is interesting to realize how one's opinion of snow--and winter altogether--seems to change as he or she gets older. Your poem illustrated that nicely. And by the way I also quite dislike winter. Makes me so glad it's finally over!!

Being a meteorology major here in the States, I thought this was a very interesting approach. I feel your angst about winter on that part - I think you have that sort of outlook that winter is sort of quiet and dull (and it never is meteorologically!) and I think also that you have the same outlook that I have and appreciate it.

It sucks that it doesn't snow here, but then in a way it probably is a good thing because it sort of helped me relate to this piece.

I think its great also that you juxtapose what winter is between you and children. It shows more than just childhood memories, or perhaps the innocence of children, but also shows things such as growing up, or an adult's perspective which is pretty great.

Loved it.
