Vocab Story III- The Plain Little Girl

Another vocab story I did for Literature class. I love getting those SAT words every week!
-------------------------------------------------------------

There was something inherent about Jane and the way she acted. Though she was typically inert, you could always look at her and infer what she was feeling. A dull, innate frown on her face indicated her unhappiness while a small grin belied her joy.

Jane was, without exception, an innocuous and insipid child; she never hurt anyone or acted outrageously, and it was because Jane lacked the ability to do so.

Her parents and their friends would bow their heads in dismay and speak poorly of the plain little girl. They wondered what could be the reason why a child so boringly lame would prefer the solitude of wax crayons and paper over the active, laughing children in the park.

“Surely there is something wrong with her,” they would claim in exasperation, “Her mental state must be impaired.” But the bitter irony of it all was that the little girl was neither lame nor mentally impaired. The reticent child’s thoughts were astonishingly pure and judicious; she possessed great integrity and never though cynically of others.

Her bright but silent heart inundated freely, pouring out all her feelings and ideas on the paper she used to color. But no one ever saw the plain little girl’s brilliant intelligence or wondrous creativity, even though it could all be found on the colorful scribbles of the pictures she drew.
