California

he made up his own pet name for me
it comes out of him
in a half sigh
but uses his whole breath to draw it out
he coins the phrase
as if it was his from forever
as if I’ll only hear it from his lips
and it lingers with me
the soft tone
like a caress on the cheek
the kind he’ll never give me
because I would never let him get that close

This is fantastic... the last two line make the poem. It is impressive you are able to deliver such an impact in such a small amount of words. I'm adding this to my library... well done...
