In Dreams, In Lies

I cannot thrive
Nor life enjoy
I can cry
But I cannot destroy
The hearts of those who live
The laughter in their eyes
Their knowing words
And passing by
To fade away
Like vernal snow
To know, to know
I do not grow
And yet be old
Be gray, be weary
Not be bold
Forgotten - like old songs
Unsung
Not strong
Now silenced
In my fear that I am wrong
Wrung out
In terror of my youth
Accepting but not
Grasping for the truth
I cannot hide
I must decide
What needs to be
And even if
They have not heeded me
They must surely see
Through laughter in their eyes
Through knowing words
That I stand by
And wish my life away
In dreams, in lies
In schemes and prizes
Which is wisest?
Shall I wish to be what I cannot
Or all the more deny it?

I want to read this again and again. I really enjoyed the rhythm, and the fact that so much seems to lie behind the words.
