I read your poem

No I don’t like it.
I don’t like it
at all.

A poem is like a pot.
The space inside it matters.
The clay surround does not.
Show me my own empty space.
Lead me, don’t tell me.
I want to find it myself
in my silence.

Every word you use
must be from me, not you,
or I won’t like it.
I’ll turn the page thinking

No I don’t like it
I don’t like it
at all.

Well it is thought provoking!
What makes a good poem? Sometimes it's the pot and sometimes what lies inside it.

lornawelsh - OK OK confession time:

Confession 1 - I was ruffling feathers, provoking a thought or two

Confession 2 - I stole the pot image from Tao. They said the void inside oneself is more important than the intellect. It's like the space inside a pot or the hole in which an axle turns. I don't agree - I'm more interested in the squealing of an axle turning inside its hole....

I agree :-) however except for one point, the pot does matter in some cases, if i am right in thinking the analogy is that the use of pot reflecting the form that poetry uses. form is a holding space and as such can be used to great effect show casing the space within more accurately than a space presented without much thought given to the pot as it were? any way your poem and its pot works well to convey a delicious dish, much enjoyed.

Well constructed, cleverly written work that relates some of a readers / writers thoughts. It's all very well a writer creating something that nobody can read, or something that nobody thinks worthwhile having read it. The fine art is writing something that wants to be read and is worthwhile to the writer and reader both.

Yes, I like it
I like it
All.

Greta.

yeah, so true. I'm really annoying at reading something then suggesting better lines to people and taking away their poem - making it into something else. Of course, you have very cleverly put us all in a difficult position as to say we like or dislike the poem.....very good true images though!
