Where were you

I lie awake on this long lonely night
I fight back these tears with all of my might
It seemed like love all those years ago
Who is this man lying next to me
Filling this place where you should be
Where were you when I could let love flow

Where were you when I was free to love
When thoughts of you were all I dreamed of
This path I chose, I thought it was right,
Till I saw you and my heart took flight
Where were you- when I was free to love

Alone in a crowd my thoughts drift to you
How could you show up when I’ve so much to do
This life is going nowhere; I felt it was time to go
My friends surround me but I know they don’t see
The way this emptiness and loneliness eats at me
Where were you when I could let love flow

Where were you when I was free to love
When thoughts of you were all I dreamed of
This path I chose, I thought it was right,
Till I saw you and my heart took flight
Where were you- when I was free to love
