MEDITATIONS (over being a deux)
To Valerie
WITH MYSELF
When I am sure
No one is watching over,
Of boredom
I browse through books,
And unaware
That a caryatid
From the mirror stares
At me, -
Under its stare
I feel myself
Significantly lower;
Daydreams of you,
By them I'm sweetly tempted,
When see you
On the spar-deck.
Captain, I rely
On you
Who leads our ship,
A summer butterfly,
We fly afar,
No passengers,
Decks empty.
My memories,
Gems of my youth lifelong,
In them
I'm bent over a chessboard,
Pensive child;
Beyond one wall
My drunken neighbors getting wild,
Beyond another
One plays a Thelonious Monk
WITH YOU
Just be with me
In a café
Or in a music-hall,
So you will know about me
All:
Your grey druid of maple sign
Is happy,
As if flies
In lofty skies,
And,
Like a boy
In flames,
With rusty nails
Scribbles lovingly
Your dearest name
On every wall.
