Learn to Live
* inspired by the music Wolf at the Door (it girl. rag doll.) by Radiohead, Album Hail to the Thief. My first attempt at lyrical, whether it is any good or not I do not know. It was fun to write anyway.
Things are sometimes
not what they seem,
and you just have to learn
to live with the pain
That dull ache
that follows you like,
like the ghost of
tomorrow.
We are all haunted
by the past;
Consumed with doubt
that you cannot help.
You just have to learn
to live with the pain;
there is nothing else,
nothing else.
Darkness causes you
to stumble
alone
all alone.
We are all so alone,
haunted
and lost
desperate to be free.
I ride the wings of darkness
Away
Away from myself
Jeweled stars lighting my way
I fall
Falling down
through fingers,
ghostly touch,
burning,
burning,
I break into pieces
nothing left to rescue.
Broken,
I await
for time to erase me
to make me invisible.
Please just take this pain;
I don’t want it anymore;
Let me be free!
Take these chains
that bind my flesh
and cast them down
away from me.
Let me be free!
But who placed
these chains upon me?
Was it you?
Was it you or was it me?
Could it have been me?
How do you learn
to free yourself
from yourself
when you look around
and there is no one else.
That’s when you learn
that sometimes things
are not what they seem,
and you just have to
learn to live.
You just have to
learn to live.

| I felt that the first few stanzas had a rhythm that was lost after that. The feeling is good but requires more rhythm and pattern. But then maybe the change in rhythm also probably reflects that the pain wins in the end. |

I am still trying to figure out if I want the 2nd last stanza to read as is, or to just leave the poem with:
"You just have to
learn to live"
And completely delete the last line.
What do you all think? |

| Yes, a Radiohead fan! Great emotion put into this, the poem helps me feel the pain you're describing. |
