Call Center

Beep.

Smiling at the computer monitor. Nodding head thoughtfully, hand gripping mouse, pointing pointer to link. Click. Click. Disclosures. Empathizes. Apologizes. Recognizes. Mute button. Mutters curse. Un-mute. Smiles again. Explains. Explains again. And again. More empathy. Owning caller's concern. Conversation: 7 minutes, 14 seconds and counting. More explanation, tight smiles, mouse banging on desk. Nodding, nodding, nodding. Yes. Perfect. Precisely. Excellent.Sighs in relief.

Release.

stream of consciousness. The "being there" feel is nauseating

I can't think of anything that wasn't already said in the other comments -- I just liked the story and I just wanted to add my vote. Good job.

I do not think I have ever read a story with such short, choppy phrasing that I enjoyed like this one. Great job. It really got to the point.
Well done.

Well done, this is clever. Though I've never worked in a call center I imagine it says it all.

I'm wondering if you need the 'the' in
'mouse banging on the desk'
it stopped me a bit, and you did so well to avoid it up until then.

Good job, Amery. Anna

I loved the pace of this compelling little piece. It truly captures what many people feel at their desks or just what goes on through the minds. I liked "release" at the end. It made me reflect. The title is meaningful too. Thanks for sharing this :)
