Vocab Story IV- Old Man

------Read More------

Another vocab story from Lit. class using SAT words.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few years ago, there was an old man who liked to live an old and archaic way of life. He followed arbitrary practices that many people in society felt were well past antiquated. While everyday folk flowed in the ambiguous tide of constant ambivalence, the old man kept to himself and followed the old teachings of ancient civilizations.

Every item in his possession he used to its fullest potential and he never wasted any food or other organic substances; what he did not need he gave back to the Earth which had provided for him. And while the land slowly crumbled beneath the cold ci

ties of metallic apathy, the old man wrote uplifting anecdotes and sang songs to appease the growing troubles of an ever-growing nation. The old man spent his time studying and learning new things to keep his mind sharp while his body grew weaker from the onslaught of black vapors and toxins of the expanding cities around him.

While the many people of society slowly became “sophisticated” through the use of their technology, the old man became increasingly articulate through the use of his words and writing. But the more wisdom the old man acquired, the more apprehension the people of society began to feel towards him.

A few years ago, there was an old man whose way of life inspired me to follow my own path through the past; but he no longer exists in this world now covered with steel and stone.

This a gem - it is revlatory and inspiring.
So many interesting points - so relevant and thought provoking to todays global situation.

Interesting how 'sophistication' is sought after - how that word hides non-understanding about our world. For me, everything is the opposite of how it appears.
I love that you use 'articulate' as an opposite to 'sophisticate'.
