Imperfect

Remember when I ran to you
when you got home from work
I didn't see you all day
but you still looked like
a hero.
Right now it's not much different
I don't think you know
how much I admire you
for everything you've sown
your hands were cut
from drywall and nails
dusty and thickened
from the weight you've held
ever since I was a baby
you built houses.
And you've built ours
the best you knew how

Yet your daughter's gone away
and you don't think she cares
she never listens
she cuts her own hair
her keys are always missing
she's a bit too sensitive
but I don't think he knows
that I'd face a gun for him

Even when I don't
talk to you for days
with a life I try to love
an hour away
I don't
think you know
one of my biggest fears is
that you think I hate you.

I admire the honesty of this piece. It seems like your feelings just poured out from within, which I admire. Great read.

I think the tone and structure of the lines suites the unstructured nature of the narrator of the poem. I was wondering if "Imperfect" would be better than "Unperfect". Unperfect isn’t really a word.

first word that came to me- satisfied. Made me think that you have come to terms with how you feel and are okay with it.

fav. lines: Yet your daughter's gone away
and you don't think she cares
she never listens
she cuts her own hair
