Summer Morning
I wonder what ran through your head
That early summer morning,
Did you speak out loud, or maybe sing,
Or smile in your mirror?
Who knew that you would disappear
That early summer morning?
I don’t remember what occurred
That early summer morning.
I know that I’m the only one
That didn’t hear the phone.
I’m sad that you were all alone
That early summer morning.
No one explained a thing to me
That early summer morning.
I understood that you had gone,
And left without much joy.
Were you off to meet your little boy
That early summer morning?
I pray you found some peace at last
That early summer morning.
I was too young to understand
How hard your life had been,
I’ve never thought it was a sin,
That early summer morning.
Ten years had passed before I reached
My early summer morning.
When life became too much to bear
I could have walked away,
I’ll never know what made me stay
My early summer morning.
I hope we get to meet again
Some early summer morning
I’ve learned so much I’d love to share,
But never got the chance,
We’ll have a different circumstance
Some early summer morning.
