words of wisdom from a 25 year old gay man
I ask myself
because
deep within my heart
i know
i'll find the answer
who am i?
what will i become?
when did it all begin?
where did it start?
why me?
how is it supposed to feel?
No one is the best at what they do
because when they become the best
they stop doing it
you are only being punished
when you think you are being punished
but you are only rewarded
when someone thinks you deserve it
we are not here to judge
what is impossible
we are here to make the impossible
our goal
pain is something you can not ignore
but you can learn to accept it
love is a living thing
and is only as complicated
as the thing it lives inside
creation is not limited to God
imagination is all that is required
each tiny thought
is an action
deep within a compact
and expanding
universe
Truth is all that exists
but finding it
can be very difficult
people who shape thier beliefs
around what they desire
do not truly desire
what they believe
when you are lost
you must find yourself
in a place you do not know
addiction is our worst enemy
and our closest friend
temptation has more power
when it is easier to give in
nothing can be done
without effort
but even a tiny effort
has great potential
war is justified
with a promise of peace
and sustained
with a promise of glory
Equality
can be achieved
through balance
anything that can happen
will happen when it needs to
like me...
running out of things to say

Seth - you part with thoughts that are relevant and provoking. Your style makes me believe that you do keep a journal and you do refer to that journal frequently. This is a good thing. The snippets of insight into a 25 year old gay man's mind shows me that the young man has been places, and will still go to many places on his journey through this time. You have put into words the nuances we all think but cannot place into words. You do it well, leaving the rewder to fill in the blanks and use his imagination. Obviously poetry, prose is not created in one day or a sporadic moment in time. Your poetic vision needs to be worked, ploughed, and made into a cohesive whole. I look forward to your other writing.

I think this should be about a dozen poems, not one. You pick up and drop some great things that I feel like should really be flushed out. Granted, the title is "wisdom from a 25 year-old gay man" and this is just that, but if you ever revisit this work then think about the stories that gave you all the bits of wisdom and make them something.
Write more and rant less, I guess? |
