disjointed experience in the grocery store

so I was wandering around in the grocery store this morn’
trying to head home after work, getting a few essential things
when all of a sudden the Venetian Snares blasted into my ears
and that’s when things started to get a bit strange

the aisles just weren’t as straight, items looked to be balanced precariously on the shelves
you see, I had just been working all night and I wasn’t feeling too well
it seemed to me that everyone was looking at me sideways, perhaps it was just me
so I just wandered around, I’m sure, with dark-shadowed eyes and an odd grin

I turned the music up louder, adjusting my basket full of groceries
I was trying to remember all what I needed, meanwhile I had forgotten the list
into the basket went honey and tea, milk and bread, really anything that came to mind
to awake my darling from the dead upon coming home, surprising him with tasty delights

but as I said, things had gotten somehow disjointed for me
looking around at the other shoppers at seven in the morn’
there seemed so many more than was the usual
while I was picking my lemons, some odd couple was gawking at me

perhaps I had my music too loud, that might have been the case
I mean, I’ve gotten some pretty weird looks while listening to other things
the music was a cacophony, though I can’t quite remember the name
horns were playing out of tune with pianos on the verge of disease

the sterile neon lights seemed to pulse silently on the high rafters
and the store employees moved out of my way
it felt like I was wandering the aisles for eternity
but the time elapsed was really only ten minutes
