Tanka For Alien Challenge.
Caligula rots
has rotted, but Nemi lives
in idle blue waves
Goodbye wooden ship so kind
your story cast in copper

I had to wikipedia this stuff, made for an interesting poem. The man may die but his monuments live on, for a time, until they too rot and only the land (or lake) on which they existed remains. That's what I got out of it, at least, and it felt pretty deep as I read. The flow is solid, not choppy like a lot of tankas. Words slip of the tongue, but the images allows for further reflection after the short read.
happy writings. |

| I thought this was outstanding, Christopher! Love the last two lines. |

| It is about a massive ship that Caligula the Roman ruler built during his reign. It was a pleasure boat built on lake Nemi, and at the time was the largest sea faring vessel ever built. Does that help a little? |

I think I'd really like this if I understood what it was about - could you offer a little explanation for me?
I do so like the way the words flow that I want to know more. Lines 4 and 5 are really lovely. |
