On California's Shore

Many miles we ride in silence,
share the back of your fine bay mare.
Sea breezes never stopping,
our bodies pressed together warmed.

The ocean is eternal.
The shore goes on forever.
Like the trail of hoof-prints behind us,
the endless virgin sand ahead.

My arms are locked around you,
sensual softness of your belly,
pleasure tingling in my hands,
electrifying my fingers.

Seas crash against eternal rock,
rushing like your horse’s breath.
She’s satisfied to run like this,
feeling freedom beneath her hooves.

You lean back against my chest.
Your hair blows over my face.
God, I crave the fragrance of you,
the shape, the sound, the love of you.

The soft comforts of your breasts,
the opulence of your curves,
I’ll cover you with myself.
Shelter you from the spring rain.

Your hand's delicate petal
rests exquisite on my roughness.
You feel my gaze lingering
in the crystal pools of your eyes.

You make me wish I were better
than this coarse and simple man.
To never falter in your presence,
to be everything I can.

You’re my goddess of beauty.
No words are fit to worship you.
How can a man describe such things?
Crude strength is all I own.

You are everything to me.
You are the source of my bliss.
With you I need nothing else,
but the blessing of your kiss.

Somehow you understand me.
You make me want a settled heart.
You quiet my storming,
gently capture my roiling soul.

The warming sun reappears,
glows golden untouched sand ahead.
And we’ll ride countless miles together,
share the back of your fine bay mare.

Being quite deep into "The Mentor's Journal" and thinking I've gotten you pegged, this poem pulled the rug out from under me. It is a lush loving tribute to not only the woman, but the natural scene that surrounds. Nearly made me swoon. Wanda That's pronounced (Wan Duh).

Grae, thank you. The twice-used soul escaped my redundancy check. So thanks for that, too. Work in progress...

Simply beautiful - your poetry has captured my 'roiling soul', Bill.

The journey across 'virgin sand' and with all the tactile images that you give makes me want to leave the dismal UK and trek across beaches under the blue skies of California - simply marvellous.

Grae:)

You might think about changing the first 'soul' in the penultimate stanza, but it didn't stand out as a major thing.
