The Girl with ADD

Chapped hands,

nails in lumpy blue

because she couldn’t

sit still long enough to let them dry.

She swiped the brush

over the smears

to make a stack of scars.

She likes science,

skin and bones,

peering through microscopes

until her eyes water.

Humming, tapping,

all to make white noise

against the twenty-seven thoughts

boiling in her brain,

scribbling pages of shapes

to clear enough space

for paying attention.

"to make a stack of scars" - that's a fantastic image. The whole poem is brooding with original thought.

Nice job.

I like this, it is almost a voyeuristic piece in that it allows the reader to envision a bookish lass indulge what makes her time worthwhile.
I do disagree with other posterboys that it can be emended to reflect more detail. It is sufficient in itself. It is not about the scope but the depth.
27 thoughts? makes one curious what they could be because I only have one major thought at a time :-). stress makes that thought seem louder.

A very cute poem. Concise but very detailed. It is as eautiful as your short stories! Great work!
