Teen Spirit

Sighing with regret
for a good life not yet lived
blank face of a cat

yeah, a bit like teenagers. They can seem po-faced and disengaged, but that's only to mask their existential fear of having to make the great leap into the drivers seat of their own lives.

This is what I love about Haikus - they are so sparse that so much can be read into them.

I like the handbrake stop.
It's moving too.
It's also so not true - Cats have the most amazing expressions - but only when you know them. They play their cards close to their chests - and can fit into the same view that Japanese people might have of westerners - they all have big noses and look the same.

I liked the ambiguity of this Haiku. I can imagine the cat, maybe sitting watching the wayward teen boozing; going off the rails.

thanks Leila,
firstly, added in another word to the second line to bring it into line with the correct Haiku procedures.
secondly, I don't think it's that teenagers are void of all emotions (although i'm sure you were joking! damn emails with their lack of tone!1).
I think they are so consumed by their emotions (and sense of self) that they think no-one else will understand - hence the po-face.
God, I'm puffed!

yep that's the teen spirit. hahahaha. Teenagers are void of all emotions. I personally think the last line is fine.
