Butte

THE RISE AND FALL OF BUTTE, MONTANA

by : Timothy Scott O’McMalcontent

Butte commonly referred to as Butthead City by outsiders, in full, Butthead City-Silver Bow, in Silver Bow County, southwestern Montana. The city is situated in a mineral-glutted region on the wrong side of the Rocky Mountains at the extreme elevation of about 5700-ft, which causes brain damage to most residents. Copper mining, tourism, Psychological research, alcohol and the illegal drug trade, are important to the economy. Montana Tech of the University of Montana is in Butthead City, although local residents do not posses the mental requirements to attend. Residents take pride in The Berkley Pit, a big hole in the ground. Dumbstruck tourists stare into it for hours. Points of interest include the Butthead City Historic Districts; the Copper King of the Buttheads Mansion, and "JPs house” - the oldest operating one customer brothel in the state. Overlooking the City stands “Our Madam of the Miners”, a 90-ft statue honoring the infamous prostitute “Long legged Anna” (from Butte, Mt.). Settled by scumbag Irish prospectors with little else to do in the 1860s, it was originally a gold mining and later a copper-mining center. Currently it is a good place to pick up aluminum beer cans. During the 1880s, copper mining was begun and Marcus Daily would hire any lowlife degenerate bum, dum enough to pick up a stick of dynamite. Butthead City was incorporated as a city in 1897. Declining copper prices in the 1970s and early 1980s forced many miners out of work to become hopeless alcoholics, after a century when nearly $22 billion in metals had been mined at Butthead City. Efforts to diversify the economic base have failed miserably. The Irish Mafia’s involvement in gambling, drugs and prostitution are the city’s only hope for revitalizing the community, which is named for a nearby Butthead. In 1977 Butthead City consolidated with Silver Bow County as Butthead City-Silver Bow city, sharing one government headed by an Indian Chief Executive and other “high” officials from Jerry’s Corner. The male to female population ratio has remained even as the more attractive women move elsewhere and are replaced by ugly ones hoping to blend in with the deteriorating surroundings. Declining Population statistics. (1970) 43,027; (1980) 37,205; (1990) 33,941; (2020) 3; - J.P., Chris and Kevin.
