Breathe

A life teetering in the balance
Two sides struggling to appear,
To succeed.
Be nice, smile nice, look nice
Breathe.
The alternative will fail you at
Every turn.
Never confess to anything that
Hasn't been caught on camera.
Your life story is of no interest
To anyone but yourself.
The gossiping hounds who carry
their shopping bags into their houses
Will bring you down.
Draw inspiration from others
who write soft, beautiful words.
And caress the melody
In your head.
Keeps you going even though
You're not depressed.
Smile, even if people don't
Smile back.
Stoney-faced air hostess with
The beautiful daughter.
She knows and avoids you
Like the plague.
Seriously, what's it all about?
You think too much so drown yourself
In music and words.
Life leaps at you so just
Grab it.
But don't forget to
Be nice, smile nice, look nice
Breathe.

This sounded like many of my morning inner monologues - that is to say I enjoyed it. Very clever and inspiring. You do quite a bit with such a short piece. Thanks for sharing.

Reading this, I get the impression that you are a female Polonius. Good advice, cleverly given. A really fun poem, full of optimism - what a nice change.

"There and Back Again"

by brigitte liebenberg

A powerful, poetic journey back from the brink - literally! The poetry in this book is a direct result of the creative processes started by entering therapy for depression. The poetry speaks for itself and allows others to relate to the content in their own ways.
