Drinking Poison
deeper, danker unlit sky
clouds billow farther than the eye
can you see the shadows dance and writhe?
dreams he of untouched valleys and mountains high
faster, faster, twirling death
giving the land his tainted breath
leaves and trees to sleep away
the setting sun is in her sway!
gentle gentle, midnight slumber
as man toils, frothy anger
it is he that calls his number
venturing fearlessly into danger
sleeping sleeping, now forever
she and he always together
gentle gentle are the whispers
of the snake within his liver.
