Who do you think is the most important person to ever live?
He was expected but not recognized. For centuries, the promise of His coming was the hope of redemption for thousands. In sorrow and anticipation they awaited His arrival. He was described to a tee by the wisest of the times. They fasted and prayed night and day, “come Lord, come with swiftness, our grief is too great to bear. Why do you tarry so long?” he appeared just as was predicted and yet they did not know Him.
Everything about Him caused controversy. His miraculous conception is hard to believe for some, but it is still true. His perfect life isn’t possible in the minds of some skeptics. His ability to perform miracles, and claiming to be God, was very much looked down upon. And this is still controversial to this day. His death as brutal as it was, more brutal than most; brought doubts that this is the King of the Jews. How could the king die? He did not come and do what was expected of Him, He did not raise His people to the highest and most respected in the land. But the most controversial of all times is His resurrection.
He was well known yet so misunderstood. So many, even today know about Him. But they do not KNOW Him. They listen to the words, yet not comprehend the intent of the message. They misconstrue the content to justify their behaviors and attitudes.
Everything about Him was mysterious. The way He walked, so confident, so sure; He was a man on a mission; walking to the beat of a different drummer, without straying to the left or to the right.
The way He talked; a messenger, trying His best to convey in terms available to the human mind, speaking in parables, giving them fables in many variations. He warned that his world will not last and offered another reality, another world. The world he created this one to be. But man in his naivety destroyed all that this world could have been.
The way He loved was incomparable. He knew we were one breath, one heartbeat away from damnation. He explained; He gave many examples; He modeled the way to escape it.
Yes, Jesus Christ is undoubtedly the most important person that ever lived.
