Private Investigation

The shadows merged and stayed together. Crouched outside the bedroom window, Dalton eyed the silhouettes on the shade.

This was almost the evidence he needed. He’d seen them kissing, seemingly innocently, but there was something more sinister going on.

All he needed was one good look and he’d know.

How curiosity haunted him. He’d been suspicious for months. He’d seen something in their little glances, their secretive conversations.

Now, being so close to the truth, he couldn’t stand it. Rashly, he opened the front door. He rushed to the bedroom and threw open the door.

Standing half-dressed by the bed, they snatched clothes from the floor to cover themselves. “Busted!” Dalton thought as he stared.

“Dalton! What are you doing out of bed? It’s an hour past bedtime. And it’s a school night!” His mother scooped him up and carried him into his room.

Without saying a word, Dalton climbed into bed. No answers and more questions. He silently vowed to investigate the mystery further another day.

Yes, and I've used up my twist ending allowance for the next three years now.

Hi Bill

Aw, wee soul - and how annoying it must be for the wee ones, not quite getting what's going.

I'm not as brave as Jen, so I won't share my own experiences of this - ahem.

Thanks for the read - loved the twist.

Cheers

Karen

Ooh, a 'gotcha' but not quite. And I was so sure I had it all figured out. Very nicely done. A good read. Oh, for me it reads fine that he was outside.

Janet, I had him hiding outside in the grass before going into the front door, but took it out to get under 175. I've been a little too busy to think lately, so the little edits I should be doing haven't gotten my focus. Maybe will revisit this later.
