The Wedding Audience

Everyone in the church stood and applauded as the flutes serenaded the newlyweds down the aisle and towards the entrance. Jenn and Mike took their respective places under the oak arches dripping with pink roses and baby's breath. The audience slowly started filing towards the couple each giving their congratulations and praise.

Kay turned to her husband Jack and whispered, "What is wrong with you? You've been acting weird all day."

Jack kept his narrowing eyes on the bride and groom as they crept closer and closer. His jaw muscles flexed involuntarily.

"What are you talking about?" He spat out. "Not a thing is wrong with me. Not a thing."

Jack crumpled up the wedding program that he had been folding compulsively during the ceremony and threw it on the floor.

"Whatever Jack. You'd better not ruin this." Kay desperately tried to detect what exactly was going on inside of her husband by looking into his eyes but with no success. Jack was the King of emotional barriers.

What Kay failed to notice was that Jack wasn't exactly staring at the happy couple as much as he was staring at the slight swelling in the bride's abdomen. Maybe that's why the wedding was so rushed. Jack was surprised that the whole crowd wasn't gossiping already. He snickered to himself.

Kay dragged Jack by the hand clumsily towards the bride and groom while straightening her dress with her other hand. A sugary smile pasted itself across her face as she warmly hugged the groom then the bride.

"Congratulations you guys! Jenn you have to call me as soon as you get back from Jamaica. I want to hear about everything!" She squealed

She stepped back and pushed Jack towards the couple like you would a scared child. Jack stiffly offered his hand to Mike while grunting out his congratulations as they shook. Neither would look the other in the eye and they were very stiff; it was obvious that both were uncomfortable

Jack turned to Jenn with a smirk on his face. He subconsciously glanced at her stomach for a brief moment and said, "I'm happy for you." Not really sounding as though he meant it at all.

The bride's eyes followed Jacks down her body when recognition hit. She quickly met his gaze. Jenn's face became flushed rather quickly but she managed to squeak out "Thanks."
