Winter Rambles
The autumn leaves crumple
As I take another step.
The harsh wintry wind,
Brushing against my face
So sudden, so strong that
I can’t help but hold my breath.
The sun is peeking through the rainy clouds,
Illuminating the world warmly,
Making it look almost magical.
When in reality the air is cool, damp.
But the magic in winter,
Still lingers on.
It’s truly a winter wonderland.
The touch of a snowflake
On my hands, my face.
Before it melts away.
Gives my heart a startling sensation.
How powerful each snowflake is!
Peeling me away from my warmth,
Bit by bit, piece by piece.
Making me almost yearn
For the hot, sweaty summer days.
The harsh wintry wind
Brushes my face a second time,
Pulling me back to the present.
I look around and
The world is now silent.
So quiet that I can only hear
The sound of my breath.
In, out. In, out.
This kind of noiselessness,
Can only be found in winter.
Not in summer or spring,
Or even fall-when the leaves
Are falling and make a crisp sound.
So gentle it’s almost naïve.
No, winter is the only time,
Things finally seem calm and collected.
Just for a little while.
