I never would've left

I never would’ve left
if only you would’ve felt
that I am worth any fight
that I am the light
Warming your soul
making you whole.

I never would’ve turned
my back on you
If you wouldn’t have lied
If you would’ve seen
I was on your side.

Always defending
Always fighting
Everyone and everything
that came my way
Just to hear you say

You love me like I do you
You’ll be by my side
when I’m uncertain what to do
You’ll be my guide
and save me from being blue.

I would’ve come back
even in the very end
if only you would’ve asked
Telling me to stay
And showing me you’ll find a way.

Making sure nothing goes wrong
While I am weak you’re strong
And you carry me along
Showing me we belong

I wasn’t able to win this fight alone
I couldn’t make it on my own
Lies and secrets surrounding me
I felt I could no longer see
If this was what I hoped it to be

I would’ve come back
if you would’ve melted the ice
If you would’ve felt I am worth it
If you would’ve made the sacrifice
To change, to unfold your soul
to let me in and let me be
The one you reveal it all to
The one who sets your heart free

Love hasn’t died
yet friendship is what’s left
and as I lie awake at night
I wonder why you didn’t fight
for me, not even once
You just let me go by
Much later I still couldn’t see why

Though the friendship remains
my heart’s light turns into flames
With each word from you
Revealing where you are and
what you do
Sometimes it seems like
I still have meaning to you.

Maybe not the same as you to me
Cuz some time after we part
My heart still isn’t free
It keeps on loving you
No matter what I say or do.

As I stare out into the vast skies
I wonder if your heart now flies
or whether it still keeps loving me too
keeping you from moving on
no matter what you say or do.

And I wonder why you didn’t imply
that you never wanted me to go
What kept you from fighting
I probably will never know.
Yet I reveal this deep hidden secret to you
Even now, after all we have been through
There is nobody I love more than you.

Eloquently describes the pain of a relationship breakup and the need for closure in order to move on. Very heartfelt and well written.

I think it should be:
"if you had melted the ice
If you had felt I am worth it
If you had made the sacrifice"
I think that would also have provided a contrast: his "if you have" with the narrator's "I would've" - different sound, different meanings, different person and evidently different perspective. But I like the dwelling on what the narrator "would've" done. I don't like the "Cuz" and the English needs correcting in:
"Maybe not the same as you to me
Cuz some time after we part
My heart still isn’t free"
Personally I don't like rhyming in present day poems, but you and many others do. To me the rhyming trivialised the serious theme of the poem. However I like the steady confiding tone of the narration, consistancy of diction (but for the "Cuz") and the guy would certianly get the message! Funny the narrator points out she is weak and he is strong, because the poem seems to say the opposite. He seems a bit of a wet blanket!

Breaking up is never easy but we all survive some how.
