Free Bird
She sat on her bed. The window was open and a gentle summer breeze blew the curtains. She looked around the almost empty room and sighed. All that was left was the unmade bed, the empty wardrobe, the item-less table, the book-less bookshelf, and the radio on top of the wardrobe. It played a song softly. The words drifted through the air.
“If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on, now,
There's too many places I haven't seen
And if I stayed here with you, now
Things just wouldn't be the same
Well I'm as free as a bird now,
And a bird you can not change.”
She got up, walked over to the wardrobe, and turned off the radio. She picked up the back-pack full of last minute items that was waiting patiently by the door. She took one last look at the room before she walked out.
At the car she met her parents and her friends. Smiles were on everyone's faces, yet tears were visible. They all knew she had to go. It was her time to start anew. It was her time to fly. A grand new adventure loomed before her...College.
With final hugs, she got into the car. With promises of visiting soon, she turned the key. With a final wave, she pulled out onto the highway. She cranked up the radio and a song spilled out from the speakers. She smiled happily, realizing the song was truly about her.
"If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me? For I must be traveling on, now, there's too many places I haven't seen. And if I stayed here with you, now, things just wouldn't be the same. Well I'm as free as a bird now..."
