Will You Trust Me - ©2008, Janet K. Poludniak

©2004, Janet K. Poludniak
Revised, 2008

"Will you trust Me in the hard times whatever trials may befall?
Will you recognize My spirit, in the darkness, hear My call?
Will you trust My spirit's leading? Will you follow anywhere?
Will you trust Me through each trial or wallow in despair?
Will you follow in the shadows knowing that I know the way?
Will you trust Me if I'm silent and can't hear the things I say?
Will you trust Me in the darkness when it seems all hope is gone,
even if you cannot feel Me, lift your cross and carry on?"

My mind began exploring, "Whatever could this mean?"

Now, fully awake, I heard His voice again, more keen.
Almost in a whisper, He spoke the question o'er and o'er:
"Will you trust Me in the hard times, even if I close the door?"
"When your strength is waning, will you know that I am strong?
Will you lift your heart in worship and praise Me with a song?"

Then my heart began to question; I felt fear rise up within,
"What if I fail to trust Him? I don't want to fall again!"
I began to call upon Him, "Lord, I know this fear is wrong.
You know I want to trust, but I need You to make me strong!
Guide me through each trial, and by Your grace, I'll do my part.
Be Lord of all that is to come, of all that's in my heart.
If like Job I am tested and must face deep grief and loss,
remind me that You love me, that there's grace for every cross."

"Think of all the ‘what ifs?' My child, will you trust Me then?
If you feel that joy has left you, will you know it comes again?
You must know that I am with you when your world falls apart.
Will you still call upon My name and trust with all your heart?
Will you trust Me as you struggle, when the road ahead looks rough?
Will you know I am still leading when you think you've had enough?"

I could feel my body tremble and my cheeks were wet with tears.
"Lord, there's no one else to follow; I will trust You through my fears.
I've tried the other way, but I could not hear Your voice.
I walked alone in my rebellion, so now I make Your way my choice.
Even if this child should stumble, You will never let me fall,
so I choose to walk beside You, where You can hear my call.
There's no one else to turn to, for You are the Word of life;
I cannot turn away, Lord, no matter what may be my strife.
As long as You are walking with me, I will never be alone;
if I fail to trust You fully, then Your blood will still atone.
When I die and enter heaven, and I see You, face to face,
I will know You brought me through each moment by Your grace.
If I live or die tomorrow, I'm content that You are mine.
You bought me at Calvary and I'm Yours ‘til end of time.
Use me for Your glory, let me shine for all to see—
You heal the broken, bleeding, and Your love did this for me."

Thanks, Cassandra. Many of us find ourselves in that place, and returning to it from time to time. When I start to feel fearful, I go back and re-read this poem for encouragement. It helps me gain perspective. I think my favorite words in the Bible are, "And it came to pass" as opposed to "...it came to stay." (Grin). Thanks for commenting. Janet

A lot of this poem related personally to where I am in my life right now. I have many fears and uncertainties that have tried to take hold of me, but I have faith that He will pull me through. I liked how the poem began with questions and ended with affirmation of God's grace and abiding love. Beautiful work!
