Entry for March 23, 2008

Floating drifting gliding soft,
Roaming prowling bouncing high,
Wandering flowing streaming white,
Cottony wisps that can't be touched,
Silvery linings best left out of sight.

I'm back, God.
Why do I have such freedom?
Do you sit around waiting for me
to get in touch?
Yes, yes, I know you are
in my horse's eyes
the wag of my dog's tail
in sunlight streaming onto the surface of a lake
in memories I have of love.

I don't invite you in.
You are there
even when I'm not looking for you.
You really are relentless in pursuit of me.
You wanted me all along.

Now I'm pursuing you.
I want you in my life.
I want to go steady with you.

Without you I fall
into the cauldron of shame fear
abandonment loss
I haul myself out
or maybe you help me

I want you in my life
every day
every minute of every day
when I sleep
when I'm awake
when I talk to students
when I'm digging in the ground
falling off my horse
figuring out whether I trust some other human being

I do not want to go on without you.
Will you be my Valentine?
