Expendable IED Fodder

Posted for this fifth anniversary.

Send him to Iraq;
Don’t expect him to come back.
Just give us his life,
Mothers children and wife, to
Use as IED fodder.

Send your son to die;
Now, don’t be asking us “why”.
Don’t cast any blame;
Don’t start crying again. Be
Proud he’s IED fodder.

Daddy’s gone to war,
Amongst the blood and the gore.
He’s one of our best,
Trained up with the rest, of the
US IED fodder.

Hubby’s in a box -
His head his arms and his socks.
The rest of him stayed
At the site of the raid. He’s
Used up IED fodder.

We all suffer pain,
But consider the gain!
When Islam we foil,
Swap democracy for oil,
What’s mere IED fodder?

Written in response to George W. Bush's July 2, 2003 invitation to “Bring them on”

I have always opposed the way the lie of the reason for this war was sold to the American people. They used 9/11 as an excuse for it when Saddam had abosolutely nothing to do with it. If they had been honest and said we were invading Iraq to secure oil supply & to make the mideast safe for Israel, would ANYONE have supported it? I say, bring back the draft and let children of government officials be first in line. That would brin a quicker end to it, I believe. Everybody should see Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911. What a tragedy. Thanks for sharing this.

Glad you're back, Geordie. Thanks so much. My son is safely home now, but so many other's aren't.

Thanks for commenting, Jane. An IED (Improvised Explosive Devise) is a homemade bomb placed at the roadside to blow up vehicles. A leading cause of US and coalition soldier death and injury.

Wow! This is terrific. I would post it everywhere you can. It says it all. My only suggestion is to change the title. I had no idea was IED is and still don't.

I sometimes think we are witnessing a serious and perhaps permanent decline of the U.S., not as a super power but as a government that lives up to its own principles.
