With eyes uncovered (Revised)
I wander through life as if the
sun had come down and decided
to live in my eyes, blinding me
for a moment that took forever.
For a while I thought it was you...
I thought everything was you.
I made you the center of my world and
the core of my heart,
the air that I breathe and
the food that I eat...
I thought you were the sun
that rose every morning
to bring me to consciousness;
I thought you were the wind
that hugged my body
as I walked down the street,
and the earth I felt
beneath my feet.
I thought you were the rain
that blessed my life
during nights I could not sleep...
All this time I thought it was you
but I was wrong.
Everything had become you,
until the sun decided to set and
depart from my eyes...
And the moon took its residence.
I am no longer blind.

They say experience is the best teacher, and I think this poem backs up that saying. I like how the poem leads you from pain, through the moments of joy, then back to sorrow in the end. And the connection between sun and moon. One can always take heart that tommorrow, the sun will rise again.
Happy Writings. |

What a sad poem, Freda. The pain is very evident. May you never have to endure those feelings again.

| freda, what a great, sad love story. I like the flow of emotions. It signals the inconsistency of life and sometimes, one may be unfortunate to come out of it worse than ever. |

but i love the idea
of the sun living in your eyes
not blinding
but blazing |

| Great Poem, Freda. It reminded me of the day I realized that I was being controlled because I allowed myself to be, and then wondered why I let him control me, but not the others who tried. I made him the center of my world because he fathered my son. |
