I can work and I can play
but I can’t have my say
Nowadays I shut my mouth
and you take up the reigns
In fact you always had them
my authority was feigned
In hindsight it all seems so preordained:

I’m just raw material
another corpse for burial
another villain for the gallery
I’m unnecessary
rendered obsolete
with a baster and a rolled-up sleeve

Blood is thicker than water
cum thicker than blood
One wants a son
one wants a daughter
a name dragged through the mud
The tyrant vilified
slurping cans on the recliner
The household as a kingdom
and a crown upon the father

Behind every good man a woman
to every king there is a queen
But from Madonna to Cleopatra
there is not a man to be seen
From Anthony to Solanas
from death ‘til victory
patriarchs are fitful nightmares
but matriarchs are just a dream

And I’m just raw material
caught somewhere in between
another suitor for the sympathy
I’m unnecessary
rendered obsolete
by the tiny slit of a surgery
incomplete without virility
Incomplete without the seed
