Rooftop

When I saw the sun conquer the sky
My tired eyes widened with bliss
The brightness pierced through my heart
But I still yearned for your kiss

When I looked at the time
I felt my body drained of life
But when you came into my mind
It took out all of my strife

Then I remembered last night
When you told me you would return
All it did was make me realize
That promises do get burned

So I went down and came back
To my old life without you
And did everything I thought of
To get me out of the blue

I went my own way the whole day
Until the sun was not seen in the sky
But soon emptiness filled my heart
And my eyes were no longer dry

I did try to set myself free
From wanting you by my side
But I could not help but feel
The loneliness I can never hide

So I went back to the sad place
Broken, I could not deny
I let go of everything last night
Knowing your words meant goodbye

The sun rose without you around
And it set with me not seeing your shadow
Now I am here again on the rooftop
With my soul cold and my heart hollow

This is a powerful piece; full of emotion and a sorrow that the reader can relate to regardless of race, location (or any type of physical and social difference) because love is quite universal and we all have (or will) at one point or another felt its effects- good and bad; and we have embraced them. I like how this is simply but meticulously written. This flows.
Thanks for a great read!
