On the Blue Shore of Silence - For Pablo Neruda

On the blue shore of silence
A handful of eyelids swim beneath the starlight
And become embers in the dusk.

A purple coral of submerged sound
Establishes itself within the darkness
Of the children who innocently dream
On our behalf.

I assume this poem speaks to the imagination that so many people loe as they grow up so only children can still dream like a child. My image of that ember is a dying light that is going to vanish--a metaphor for childhood lost and the imagination that goes with it.
