Politics as Usual
I find it hard to believe that people
Genuinely care for one another
I see a world full of politicians
And “Bless your heart” christians
Self-image above all else
Whether through money, fame, success
Or through helping and giving
Anything to uphold the image
The identity
Identities of power, success
Hotness, relevance, beauty
Or of being the 'good person'
The philanthropist, the missionary,
Building the biggest church, charity
Having the largest congregation...
Anything to satisfy the ego
An ego disguised as a Saint
Virtuous on the outside
Self serving all the while
Buying our tickets to heaven
Gaining the approval of the masses
Appeasing our own guilts, desires...
We help... definitely
Make a difference... sure
But are any of our actions Real?
Our motives True?
I'm not letting myself off the hook that easily
Can you?
