wisdom of the ancients
driving with socrates
over a high pass above delphi
a shepherd
ran desperately
to chase his sheep
from the road
his large dog
watched
“why do the shepherds
keep dogs up here
socrates?”
“for the wolves
milner”
“there are wolves
here socrates?”
“there used to be
milner”

Happy it raised a laugh, John. Thanks for your jest, hadn't heard that one.
Cheers

| Great. It reminds me of the talking sausage joke. (My brakes clogged up with ice when I was driving through the Thermople pass. I was nearly the last fallen hero... ) I appreciated your format, and use of your name. There's a stack of impossibilities in the poem that makes it hilarious. |

Thanks, David. Yes, I chose the question and answer form as being appropriate when calling in an ancient Greek philosopher.

Thanks for such an analysis, Symonne, and such a compliment. It's the first time, as far as I can recall, that I've ventured to use my own name in any poem, and happy that it seems to have worked. It will probably be a long time before anything occurs to me to warrant a repetion of that practice.

| Dear Milner, I like this poem very much. You have a very special style, especially through question and reply. I can smell something traditional and creative. Best wishes. |
