Cars' Mechanics

Cars' Mechanics 04.23.08 #1

C: The car is breaking down because something the mechanics did is not right. You may have misquoted them or not of taken note of a tricky gesture. You should have made them pause or break so it could all be absorbed as it was accounted. Maybe the object was dropped creating a bad conflict in the engine. It could have been inadvertently, dreadfully, incredibly, and most terribly complicated. Maybe the air-conditioning is out of coolant too. Something is out of coolant because the whole thing is on fire.
B: You pay the bill and leave, but there's a bad sound or smell. It runs, but the engine cannot push it up to speed and doesn't make the noise it should. It it too risky to take it to the interstate or even the highway, but you could go across the street with it and pick up some milk for your cereal. You noticed there was a cigarette burn on the interior, and the mechanics tell you it gives the car personality. It is another hitch, just another bump to make it less comfortable to be behind the steering wheel.
A: Who needs a mechanic? You've fixed your car 100 times. You can change your oil in your sleep. You grab the object and turn on the conflict. It hums. The pedal drops and it roars. You slam the hood as the sun starts to set. The red lights in the back are glowing. Bright headlights flash on just before street lamps, and the moon comes up before the sun is entirely below the horizon. This car doesn't follow rules or laws. The blue lights may be right behind, but this is action and you are a hero.

I like the finished product. "You may have misquoted them or not of taken note of a tricky gesture," the first "of" seems a bit off, might consider dropping it. "Something is out of coolant because the whole thing is on fire." Great line.

Comment (don't read if you don't care)---My writing professor has just passed away due to illness. He was very notorious, very strict, very stubborn, and he was a maniacal genius when writing and editing. Mrs Sonya Huber-Humes (who has just published an excellent book) is taking on the class for what little remains in the semester. Our first full session of class she asked us to write what we thought our professor considered A, B, and C papers because she felt that she could not emulate his process.---
I don't think she quite got what she expected, a Flash-Fiction piece:
